- Why is Harry’s Aunt Marge so horrible to everyone, and why does J.K. Rowling regret making Marge a breeder of bulldogs?
- Why should you never take a hot drink on the Knight Bus?
- What is the story behind the Hogwarts portrait of Sir Cadogan and his small fat pony?
Harry Potter fans new and old can learn the answers to these questions and immerse themselves in an exciting series of new interactive illustrations based on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, when the first seven chapters of the book are launched on Pottermore.com on Thursday 20th December.
This latest installment includes a wealth of free and never-before-seen content from J.K. Rowling, exclusively available at Pottermore.com, featuring some of the characters, places, objects and creatures that populate the third book in the much-loved series. We can learn about famous Boggarts of the past, what Dumbledore gave Hagrid’s predecessor Professor Kettleburn on his retirement and the origin of the wizard adage ‘I’ll take Cadogan’s pony’, amongst many other fascinating pieces of background and insight into the books.
The third book has now been unlocked and allows fans to continue their journey, delving deeper into the Harry Potter world during the school holidays and beyond. The ever-growing content on Pottermore.com makes it the perfect environment for knowledge-thirsty enthusiasts, as well as an exciting space for new fans to discover and explore the world of Harry Potter.
A creative teaser campaign was played out on the Pottermore Insider (Pottermore’s official blog) in the lead-up to the new content being released, using the reading of tea leaves (as taught in Divination in the fiction) to speculate on what might be coming. Fans were shown a series of shapes forming in the bottom of teacups, which were eventually revealed to be creatures from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban: the Grim, a Hippogriff, and a rat. Speculation about the nature of the shapes and what they could mean grew steadily in social media spaces in the days before the third book opened on the site.
As well as a free online experience, Pottermore is also the home of the Pottermore Shop – the only place in the world where you can purchase the Harry Potter eBooks and digital audio books. The Pottermore Shop has recently introduced a gifting service, allowing purchasers to send Harry Potter eBooks as presents anywhere in the world to arrive on a pre-determined date. In the pre-Christmas period, gifting has proved extremely popular, with eBooks being sent as gifts to countries across the globe from Trinidad & Tobago to the Ukraine, and the ‘bundle’ of all seven Harry Potter eBooks becoming the most popular gift to purchase. The digital audio books of the series are also available at the Pottermore Shop, as are the companion books, newly released as eBooks, which were published in aid of charity: The Tales of Beedle the Bard in aid of Lumos, and Quidditch Through the Ages and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, in aid of Comic Relief.
