HFM Befriends #ImomSoHard Dynamic Duo, Kristen & Jen
Get to know these gals, what drew them together and more importantly, what wine they like to drink together! Seriously, if you are looking for a laugh, check these two out online. It will remind you that, although it is so hard to be a mom, you are not alone!
HFM chats with Kristen & Jen
HFM: How did you meet? What drew you to become friends?
K: We should have met nearly 20 years ago, but we didn’t. We literally went to college in the same town, had all the same friends, moved to LA, studied comedy, performed at the same places, knew all the same people, moved a block apart in the same neighborhood of Venice, both were VERY single, probably made-out with the same bartender. Then, finally, we met at some weird off-shoot theater while having beers in the parking lot. When we met I just kept thinking “HOW IS THIS THE FIRST TIME WE ARE MEETING EACH OTHER?”
HFM: How did you come up with the concept for #IMOMSOHARD?
K: It all came from a night of wine and laugh-crying over the horrible job we were doing as moms. We felt like everyone else had it all figured out and the pressure was exhausting.
J: We were tired of everything out there for moms being “educational” or depressing. We wanted something fun for moms at the end of the day, or middle of the night.
HFM: What has been the biggest surprise that has arisen out of your collaboration?
K: We went into this knowing that women are awesome, that their friendships are strong, and when the going gets tough, you go to your bestie. We have been blown away by the number of women who not only celebrate us, but celebrate each other with us, and that’s not something that’s shown enough – the love among women. The women in our community on Facebook are funny, bright, supportive, and kind, which we already knew but when you amplify that by 1.2 million, it’s a whole new level of awesome.
HFM: Why did #IMOMSOHARD decide to partner with Notable Wines for this tour?
J: Our conversations about momming, really any of our conversations, usually include us sitting down with a glass of wine, and since we love Notable Wines, it made sense. If we were bringing all of our lives with us on the road, there was no way we were going without our wine!
HFM: What was it about Notable that drew you both to the brand?
J: We just feel like one dynamic duo deserves another. I’m not saying we’re superheroes, but maybe we are. In a parallel universe, I’m Chardonnay Girl. I’m probably also beautiful and well-rested.
HFM: Do you drink the two Notable wines off the tour? Are you typically chardonnay drinkers?
J: I have a favorite between the two, personally, but I’m not going to tell you which because it would be like saying I have a favorite child and I’m not that kind of jerk. But I will say that I’m in love with one of these Chardonnays and asking it to move in after the tour and the other one and I have been intensely flirting for some time.
K: That means “yes,” you will be seeing it in the playroom.
HFM: Jen and Kristin, do you personally identify with fruity & crisp, or oaky & buttery?
K: I am fruity and crisp. That’s also how I describe my sense of style.
J: But not her ironing. I’m buttery. Inside and out. On all levels. In all things I do. And all things I consume.
HFM: You cover real topics that moms deal with every day. Have there been any issues that you were surprised by the backlash/support?
K: Again, women have been so supportive. We did a video on PPD and we were blown away by the number of women who comforted others that were struggling. And, on a lighter note, we have come to discover that many women have pooped their pants, have nipple hair, and wear spanx.
HFM: Are there any topics you will not cover?
J: Advice. Politics. Nobody wants to hear about those and we’ve done two videos on poop, mind you.
HFM: What is your favorite video you have shot and why?
K: We had a blast shooting Spanx, Body Hair, and Fitness. We were laughing so hard that it was hard to get the words out. I find Jen hilarious so it was a constant state of laughter. That’s how it is normally… camera or not.
HFM: Where would you like to see your collaboration going in the next 12 months?
K: Hopefully a spa. Maybe a 10-day vacation. Or a spontaneous unexplained 12 lb weight loss. I’d be happy with any of those.
J: We are on board for any place the moms would like to see us go. If they keep watching, we’ll keep filming.
HFM: What do your kids think about #IMOMSOHARD? Spouses?
K: Our kids are pretty young, but Finn, he’s 6, is starting to “get it,” We were on our way to a show the other day and Finn said, “Hey mom, are you gonna go make moms laugh with Jen?”. I said, “yes buddy.” And he said, “Moms need to laugh.”
J: All they know is that every time Kristin and I have a day of making videos, they are going to get to play together and eat pizza. I’m pretty sure they like it. Actually, the answer is the same for our husbands, really. Of course, they are really proud of us. They do a TON of work to help everything happen so they deserve a little shout out. (But don’t tell them that or they’ll use it as leverage in the future, I’m sure.)
HFM: If there was one celebrity you would choose to work with who would it be? Why?
K: JASON MOMOA. For obvious reasons. He has MOM in his name. IT HAS ZERO TO DO WITH HIS ABS OR THAT HE LOVES BEER AND THROWS TOMAHAWKS.
J: Stevie Nicks.
HFM: What is the one piece of advice you would give to the moms of Houston?
K: We don’t give advice. In fact, we would probably tell you to lower your bar and be okay with okay sometimes. Mom’s never stop giving 110% and it’s impossible to keep that up. So grab a glass of wine, make sure everyone is fairly happy and mostly fed and pat yourself on the back because you are doing great.
J: Either take the day off work or get a babysitter. You deserve a late night.
