- Lyndon Johnson, the 36th president, was born in Johnson City. He was a Texas congressman and senator before becoming Vice President of the United States in 1961.
- George H.W. Bush, the 41st president, was born in Milton, Mass. He was a Texas businessman and Houston congressman before joining the Nixon administration as U.N. ambassador.
- George W. Bush, the 43rd president, was born in New Haven, Conn. He was a Texas congressional candidate, businessman and governor before becoming President of the United States in 2001.
