Top Chef Junior…dishes on his Perfect Cranberry Sauce

It’s time to start preparing your Thanksgiving menu, and with many recipes to choose from, HFM wants to share a classic favorite made by contestant, Eric, who competes in the most current season of Top Chef Junior airing on Universal Kids. 

Eric says that everyone in his family contributes to holiday dinners, with everyone bringing something that is special to them, like this cranberry sauce below. 

Eric, Age: 10 from Spring Valley, TX

Recipe: The Perfect Cranberry Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 1 bag fresh cranberries
  • 1 ¾ cups sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 small Granny Smith apples peeled/cored/chopped
  • Juice and zest of 1 orange 
  • Juice and zest of 1 lemon
  • ¾ cup tightly packed raisins (preferably black)
  • ¾ cup pecans

Directions:

Cook berries, sugar, and water in a saucepan gently over low heat until the skins pop open. Add apple, zests, and juices and cook for 15 more minutes. Remove from heat. Add raisins and pecans. Stir well. Let cool. Refrigerate. Can be made a day or two ahead.
