Fall fashion, y’all. I love it!

There is a faint promise of chill in the air (or at least a drop in humidity) and I am already pulling out my boots and sweaters! Fall is the time of year that I really feel like I get to up my fashion game. To that end, I was like a kid in a candy store when I got to meet two local designers to feature in I am Houston this month. Though they couldn’t be more different, they both share a passion and vision that I admire.

I am proud to introduce you to 11-year-old Jayden Washer, who just had a gown featured in New York’s Fashion week last month! (Can you believe that? I am trying to get my 11-year-old just to do his homework!) Jayden is an amazing young man with an infectious smile, fabulous hair and a true passion for life. I hope you enjoy getting to know him as much as we did. I see big things in his future!

Next, I was privileged to meet Kristina Haag, another home-grown designer following her bliss. Her vision is to help women battle the Houston humidity & heat with style. Lord knows, that is a tough bill to fill, but her pieces do just that. Her Launch collection is simple, classic style with a bit of an edge. My favorite part is the fabric – it is stunning. Once you put in on, you will never want to take it off.

Speaking of taking off, it’s Festival time in Texas! Every weekend, there are festivals GALORE to attend. No matter what your interest, there is something for everyone. Stand outs this month are the 45th annual Texas Renaissance Festival, Dewberry Farms Corn Maze and HFM’s FunFest sponsored by Texas Children’s Hospital! Each of these festivals offers something new and exciting this year, so be sure to check out their ads for more details!

Not only is it Festival time, there are also some great tours in town. Top one is for the FANS! It’s Fandemic Time in Houston! For those of you who are into Comic Cons, this one is a must attend! With so many stars, I can’t even begin to wrap my head around how we are going to get to see everyone! That’s where the moderator, Clare Kramer, came into the picture. A former Buffy the Vampire Slayer regular, Clare knows firsthand what it’s like to be a panelist at one of these events. She has taken that knowledge and converted it into a new gig as one of the most sought after moderators of comic cons worldwide! We were fortunate enough to get to chat with her about her career, Comic Cons and her real-life gig as a single mom to 4 gorgeous kiddos. Be sure to check out her story and mark your calendar to head out to NRG for the Fandemic Tour this month.

For those of you whose own kiddos may be struggling in school, we have you covered this month. With edit for struggling students to the Education directory, we have information you need to know when it comes to your child’s education. Report cards will be coming home soon, so you may need to make some changes and consider moving to a new school. All of the schools listed are excellent choices!

Last but not least, it’s breast cancer awareness month. We would be remiss if we did not discuss this devastating disease. In Kimberly Blaker’s article, she discusses the Risks, Symptoms and New Revelations along with the benefit of early detection. We always tend to push our needs down to the bottom behind everyone else’s in the family, because that’s what moms do, right? But, what happens if you are no longer around? Don’t let that happen. Take precautions and take a moment to read this article. Your family will thank you for it.

As always, I am blown away by our readers, partners and staff.

You are all incredible and make coming to work every day worthwhile.

Enjoy fall, y’all!
