If you are looking for a treasure on the Treasure Coast of Florida, you have just discovered it.  You can find this gem called Hutchinson Island located about 100 miles north of Miami and less than 50 miles from Palm Beach International Airport.  They are widely recognized for their beautiful beaches, nature preserves and recreational parks.  The island comprises of 2 barrier islands that are separated by the Fort Pierce Inlet.

This scenic part of the Sunshine State will allow you and your family to spot manatees at Indian River Lagoon, watch pelicans as they wait for fishermen to throw a snack their way and even horseback ride along the beach.  The big or little Astros fan in your home will be pumped to stay at Hutchinson Shores Resort, a location offering easy access to First Data Field, Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium and FITTEAM Ballpark of the Palm Beaches.  This hotel opened in spring of 2017 and was the first new beach resort to be constructed on Hutchinson Island in two decades.  Not only will you be near acclaimed museums and attractions, trendy shopping, restaurants and entertainment galore in downtown Stuart, you have two oceanfront restaurants, two swimming pools and a signature spa at your fingertips without even having to leave the property.

If you do not feel like exploring the town, you can relax and have a day at the pool and spa while your child gets active on the Atlantic.  Activities offered by Hutchinson Shores Resort & Spa are diverse enough that everyone is sure to find something they will enjoy.  Every week there are opportunities for shell collecting, sandcastle building, sea turtle scavenger hunts, yoga and evening rhythm drum circles on the beach.  From May through October sea turtles lay their eggs for nesting season and this is their territory.  If surf, sand and sun are not enough encouragement to leave Houston’s cold winter climate, there are some unique attractions that cannot be found anywhere other than this hidden gem of a destination.

Check out Elliott Museum in Stuart.  You will be able to peruse through collections of classic cars, trucks, boats and bikes as well as an array of art.  You can expect to find the 1903 Stanley Steamer Runabout, 1903 Cadillac Roadster, 1926 Bugatti T-35 Grand Prix Racer and 2009 Rolls Royce Phantom sedan, V-12 to name a few.  The Florida Watercolor Society, now in its 47th year, is one of the biggest and most prestigious organizations of its type in the nation.  This historic museum is hosting a traveling exhibit with some inspiring artwork.  A lesser known fact is this place was named after Sterling Elliott, a successful inventor and businessman from the area who held more than 125 patents in his lifetime.  Admission is 14 dollars for adults, 6 dollars for kids and little ones under 6 are free.

If nature trails, a sea star touch tank pavilion, rays on the reef ray pavilion and a 750,000-gallon game fish lagoon appeal to you, the Florida Oceanographic Society Coastal Science Center is waiting for your arrival.  There is a fun and educational visitor’s center where you can learn about habitats like coastal hardwood hammocks and mangrove swamp communities.  Sea turtle walks and stingray and gamefish feeding programs can be a lot of fun to participate in as well.  Admission is 12 dollars for adults, 6 dollars for kids and little ones under 3 are free.

In historic downtown Stuart, you are sure to get your groove on at Rock’n Riverwalk.  Every Sunday this free, open-air concert takes place from 1-4pm where locals and visitors come together along the Riverwalk Stage.  You can sing and dance to live music ranging from rock to reggae and browse various vendor booths all while overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.  You will not be far from unique and eclectic shops like Rare Earth Gallery where you can find handmade art such as blown glass, jewelry boxes and pottery from local artisans.  You will also be near the Stuart Heritage Museum where you can see the growth and development of the city, from its beginnings of growing pineapples all the way up until where they are today.

As our temperatures continue to dip, it is the perfect time to start packing your bags for an enjoyable and fun-filled getaway for the entire family.  Coastal Living dubbed this area “America’s Happiest Seaside Town” in 2016 and it will surely leave everyone with lasting memories and a smile.
